Featured Blogger @ BBloggerschat

featured bblogger

Hello lovelies! So earlier this month I was lucky enough to be chosen as a featured blogger by the ladies at bbloggerschat.blogspot.com. If you didn't know, they regularly feature beauty bloggers, asking them questions about their blog & giving them a platform for others to discover them. I think it's a brilliant idea & am really grateful to have been featured :)

If you haven't seen the answers I gave to the lovely Anne's 10 bblogger questions, head on over & take a look.

2013 Book Review - June: A Monster Calls

AMC thumbnail cover

A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness

This month's book is an absolute must read. I picked it up as something to read between other books as it's quite short & a member of my old book club had said how much he'd enjoyed it. Once I started reading I couldn't put it down and finished it within a couple of days.

The story follows a young boy who has nightmares, at the exact same time each night, of a monster visiting him. He's bullied at school and having a hard time at home as his mother battles cancer. The descriptions of the monster really are quite scary and the accompanying illustrations (below) go along way to help achieve this.

Each time the monster visits the protagonist he tells him a story, stating that after the final story is told the boy will have to tell the monster his "truth", his story. The monster's stories were one of my favourite parts of this books, tales of days gone by and good vs. evil, although, ultimately, each time the message is never as black and white as that. The stereotypically 'good' and 'bad' characters are much deeper than that, and even when someone has done something bad, sometimes the good in them can still redeem them. Considering this book is aimed at children aged 11+ I thought it was an incredibly eloquent and clever way to describe such important things to a younger audience. The end is extremely poignant yet simple; in my opinion, A Monster Calls may just be a perfect book.

Have you read this book? If so, what did you think? & FYI, in case you were wondering, the Kindle version also contains these beautifully haunting illustrations.

Munich Adventures: Neuschwanstein Castle

A few weeks ago my parents came to visit & we decided to visit Neuschwanstein castle south of Munich. The castle was used by Walt Disney as the basis for Princess Aurora (Sleeping Beauty's) castle so I was really excited to see it in the flesh.

The castle itself is built into the mountains on top of a huge hill so by the time we'd walked there I wasn't feeling too princess-like. The whole area was so incredibly beautiful, though. If you ever have the chance to see Neuschwanstein it is so worth it, the scenery is unreal, it really is magical.

Marc Jacobs may well have masterminded this season's hotest trend: monochrome.
Seen at both his eponymous show & Louis Vuitton, Jacobs makes black & white the only colours to be seen in

Monochrome SS13

My favourite pieces, taking a cheeky nod to this trend, are these stunning checkerboard Jeffrey Campbell loafers & this boxy sequinned ASOS top.
Both have been extremely high on my wishlist for a long time.

What are your thoughts on this trend? Are you a fan?

Oh Em Geeee... Primark @ ASOS

Primark @ ASOS

Those beautiful online retailing giants have done it again, added another high street powerhouse to their site;
three cheers for ASOS, Primarni is now available online!

Currently ASOS are stocking 20 Primark items but this is soon to grow & I for one can't wait. See my favourites (above) + more here: Primark @ ASOS.

Will you be buying your Primarni bargains from ASOS instead of a nightmare Saturday afternoon sesh with the world & his wife in store? Or do you think Primark should have stayed strictly high street?
