Monday Review: Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters

It may be Monday but cheer up, there's these little beauties to review: Revlon Colorburst Lip Butters, £7.99 each.

lip butter 3

lip butter 4
lip butter 5

lip butter 2

What Revlon say...
Buttery balm with beautiful shiny color to give you baby soft, healthy glowing lips 94% of women felt lips were softer, smoother, and instantly hydrated.

I love these lip butters. I've pretty much always been a lip balm or gloss girl, only really wearing lipstick on nights out. The thing that always puts me off lipsticks is the worry of it getting on my teeth - not a good look! The brilliant thing about these lip butters is that they have a really good colour payout but they're also quite sheer & moisturising & so there's no worry of them leaving nasty stains on your teeth. The colour is also very buildable meaning a colour like 'Candy Apple' could take you from day to night.

I would give these lip butters
I really love them (hence having accumulated four colours already!) If, like me, you love a good lip balm or gloss these are the perfect lipstick for you plus there's 20+ colours to choose from.

Have you tried these? What did you think? Let me know in the comments below :)

New Makeup Haul

new makeup HAUL

Hello, lovelies!

So, from comments on my giveaway post, it seems that a lot of you enjoy reading haul posts; here are a few new makeup bits that I have bought recently.
My parents came to visit last weekend so it was the perfect opportunity to ask my Ma to get me a few things from Duty Free (everyone loves a saving!) She got me:

new makeup 3

YSL Touche Éclat highlighter pen in shade 2
I love this, it instantly brightens up my under eye area & makes me look bright-eyed & bushy tailed!

Benefit 'Fine One One' stick blusher
I'd read a lot of reviews about the Fine One One blusher/bronzer/highlighter stick & the general consensus was that it was very good, however, I've always been a powder blusher girl so was a bit sceptical. My main concern was that it would drag the foundation from my skin as I swiped it on but I've been pleasantly surprised every time I've used it, it really is a lovely product.

Benefit 'They're Real' mascara
Again another hyped Benefit product that I decided to try was their They're Real mascara. Whilst it's pretty pricey I'm a huge fan of big long lashes & this baby didn't disappoint. My lashes looked super long after just one or two coats & the mascara lasted all day, my new favourite.

I also recently purchased the much-raved-about foundation of the moment:

YSL's Le Teint Touche Éclat foundation in shade BD10
Like most fair-skinned ladies I struggle to find a good colour match with my foundation but YSL's 22 shades in the new Le Teint Touche Éclat foundation seemed promising, I chose the lightest yellow-toned shade & it's pretty much perfect. I'd read that this was a light-medium foundation but I'd definitely say it's medium & very buildable. It gives great coverage & doesn't even look cakey. I'd also read it broke a few people out, luckily I've not had any skin issues since I started using it & so I would definitely repurchase :)

Aaaand finally whilst shopping at the beautiful Oberpollinger on Munich's Neuhauserstraße I visited MAC & bought:

new makeup 4

Studio Finish Concealer in shade NC15
Perfect light texture but incredible pigmented cover & the perfect handbag size, how have I lived without this for so long!

Prep & Prime Translucent Finishing Powder
I sometimes find that after trawling through foundation after foundation & finally finding a good colour match my powder can then change the shade completely & leave me looking a bit orangey, which is why I picked up this translucent powder. In the pan it's white, however, once you brush it onto your skin it gives you a perfect, light dusting of see-through powder, poifect!

Do you own any of these products? What are your thoughts on them?

Monday Review: La Roche-Posay Lipikar Baume AP Moisturiser

This week's review is a product that appeared in last month's favourites, La Roche-Posay's Lipikar Baume AP moisturiser, £9.75 for 200ml from escentual.com - I bought this from a pharmacy in Munich for approx. 19,90€ for 400ml.

mon review 22apr fin

What La Roche-Posay say...
Lipikar Balm AP immediately soothes dry to very dry skin, providing 24-hour moisturisation and anti-scratch protection to help break the vicious cycle of scratching and restore skin comfort.

- With active ingrediants Niacinamide, Shea Butter (20%), Canola Oil, Omega 3 and 6 and Glycerine.
- La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water to soothe, soften and comfort sensitive skin.

I was given a sample of this when I first purchased the Bioderma Sensibio H2O cleanser. At the time I was suffering from really dry skin due to the cold weather & whilst I knew it was meant for your body I decided to start applying it at night as a really thick hydrating night cream. Luckily despite the cream being so thick it didn't give me breakouts, instead it left me with really soft, soothed skin. The formulation is quite thick but a little bit goes a long way, it's extremely soft & feels really lovely when you apply it to your skin. It rubs in easily & afterwards leaves your skin looking glowy - this is why I also tried it under foundation, if you have really dry skin this is brilliant at helping you achieve a dewy look.

I would give this moisturiser
I really love this moisturiser, I've used it all over my body & it's been brilliant. I also love the big 400ml pump dispenser as it makes application really quick & easy.

Have you tried this moisturiser or any other of La Roche-Posay's products? What did you think? Let me know in the comments below. + if you haven't entered already, please have a look at my first ever giveaway - it ends at the end of this week so make sure you've entered to be in with a chance to win a bottle of Bioderma Sensibio H2O cleanser + two other brilliant products :)

2013 Book Review - April: 11.22.63

book april

This month's review: 11.22.63 by Stephen King.

This was the first Stephen King book I'd ever read & I wasn't sure what to expect; having seen the film adaptations of IT, Misery, and parts of The Shining I wasn't sure if the whole thing would terrify or delight me, but the idea of this book just intrigued me too much: the assassination of John F. Kennedy, the early 1960s & time-travel.

Within a few chapters I was hooked. With the time-travel beginning in 1958 all I could think as I devoured the first few hundred pages was how will the protagonist stop the assassination, and what will be the fallout afterwards? By halfway through (the book is well over 700 pages) I'd kind of stopped caring. The beginning was so exciting but by the halfway point the whole plot started to drag a little bit. I put this book down & didn't read it again for a few months. In that time I'd managed to work up the strength to finish it & cared again about the moments leading up to 11.22.63 (the book's title gaining its name from the date of JFK's assassination).

As the ominous day arrived I could not put the book down & raced through the final 200 pages or so. The tension King created leading up to this point was insane & meant that I couldn't just read a couple of chapters before bed, I had to keep going. The ending wasn't what I expected & I think it's a bit of a shame that the story ended in the way that it did - having, by this point, thought of countless ways that it could end, some of which I still think are a bit better than old Stephen's choice.

The ideas that the book presents are really interesting; the fact that this whole anti-assassination mission is based on the idea that without the death of JFK a whole sequence of other awful parts of history would never have happened - the death of Martin Luther King and the Vietnam war to name a couple. There were also genuinely brilliant & incredibly clever parts, and at times, parts that made me feel a little unnerved (Stephen didn't disappoint!) However, I think the whole thing could have been condensed by at least 200-300 pages & still have been brilliant.

Have you read this or any of Stephen King's other books? What did you think? Let me know in the comments below :)

I also recently joined goodreads.com, where I've set myself the challenge of reading 25 books in 2013 (I didn't want to make it too unrealistic!) Has anyone else set themselves a similar challenge?

Monday Review: Bioderma Sébium Pore Refiner

This week's review is another Bioderma little beauty: their Sébium Pore Refiner, 30ml for £14.80 from escentual.com.

mon review 15apr

What Bioderma say...
Refine the texture of skin that is prone to excessive oiliness with the Bioderma Sebium Pore Refiner, a corrective concentrate.
Rich in dermatological active agents, this targeted daily treatment works to tighten pores that are dilated, prevent imperfections, and mattify the skin both immediately and over the long term. The correcting concentrate improves the skin's appearance, making pores appear less visible.
Bioderma's patented Fluidactiv® complex ensures that the quantity of sebum production is reduced, and its quality improved for unblocked pores and fewer breakouts. Antioxidants boost the skin's radiance and protect it from external aggressors.

I've blogged a lot over the last few months about how dry my skin has been, however, I've always had fairly large pores on my nose & previously had quite an oily T-zone. Before purchasing this pore refiner I was a bit worried that it might may my skin more dry & tight feeling, but if anything it's made my T-zone feel more nourished. I use this before applying make-up (just on my nose, chin, & out to the apples of my cheeks), it provides a brilliant base & makes my skin feel really soft.

I would give this product

I've been really impressed; not at all drying, it has left my skin really soft & smooth, not tight. I can't say for certain that my pores are smaller but my T-zone definitely feels a lot better & this works brilliantly as a primer.

Have you tried this pore refiner, or any of Bioderma's other products? What did you think? Plus if you haven't already entered (or even if you have) click on the image below to take part in my first ever giveaway to win a bottle of Bioderma Sensibio H2O cleanser & more :)

- Complexion is radiant: 79% agreed

I really liked the original Healthy Mix foundation (see my review
here) & so I was expecting biiig things from this new version, however, I have to admit I've been pretty disappointed. There were a couple of things about the original which I thought could have been improved upon & according to the blurb of the new foundation they should have been - a glass bottle: check, & a more dewy finish: check! However, I feel like the coverage of the new version isn't quite as good. I love a dewy finish but, to me, this seems to have become more dewy & more sheer. I find I have to wear more of the newer healthy mix to get the same level of coverage but unfortunately this then makes my face look a bit orange. I was really impressed with the colour match of the original & perhaps there's no difference in colour with the new version but with the slightly lighter coverage having to wear more, in my opinion, makes the colour too dark. I also found that if my skin wasn't really well moisturised the foundation clung to dry areas - not surprising but it definitely wasn't as hydrating as I was expecting.

I would give this foundation

I'm genuinely really disappointed with this, I thought it would be the perfect foundation - having tweaked some of the things about the original - but in reality I think I much prefer the Healthy Mix mark 1 :(

Have you tried the new Healthy Mix? What did you think? Let me know in the comments below :)

Money Supermarket #PassionForFashion2

Moneysupermarket.com are once again asking bloggers to show their 'passion for fashion' by putting together 3 summer outfits for under £200 a pop. So, not one to shirk a challenge, here are my offerings, I'd love to know what you think :)

Passion for Fashion 2: Casual

The first category is casual. For me summer casual wear is all about being comfortable hence the comfy Dr Marten-esque flats & item-of-the-moment: a pair of dungarees. Perfect for a festival or just a lazy summer's day.

Casual outfit cost: sunglasses - Topshop £16 // hat - ASOS £12 // dungarees - Boohoo £25 // nail varnish - Topshop £5 // satchel - Boohoo £25 // socks - ASOS £4 // flats - Boohoo £20 // t-shirt - ASOS £18

Total: £125

Passion for Fashion 2: Beach/Holiday Wear

The second category was holiday wear, for me that's long days spent at the beach or pool enjoying some much needed sunshine. My holiday essentials include suncream (of course!) & a book, I chose The Great Gatsby as I read it earlier this year & loved it. I also love bright colours & mixing patterns in the summer - hence the mismatched bikini - anything fun goes!

Holiday outfit cost: towel - Next £14 // sunglasses - Boohoo £10 // Nivea suncream set - Boots £18.99 // cover-up - ASOS £25 // bikini top - ASOS £16 // bikini bottoms - ASOS £12 // sandals - Boohoo £22 // book - Amazon £12.97 // large bag - Boohoo £20

Total: £150.96

Passion for Fashion 2: Party

Aaaaand last but not least: party! For this category I really wanted to channel the 60s looks seen on the Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton SS13 catwalks. I included the Prada-esque sunglasses because I think they're fabulous & if you're going to an evening 'do it might still be light & therefore necessitate sunglasses (I had to fit them in somehow!)

Party outfit cost: headband - Topshop £7.50 // dress - Topshop £28 // sunglasses - Boohoo £6 // hair inspiration from Perrie Edwards // clutch bag - ASOS £25 // perspex heeled shoes - ASOS £40

Total: £106.50

So there we go, 3 very different outfits for 3 different summer occasions, what did you think? Let me know in the comments below :)

giveaway 2

So if you can't tell already I'm very excited to be doing my first ever giveaway :D
I've been wanting to do one for a while, having reached 100 followers a fair while ago, but for one reason or another I haven't got round to it. SO now that I'm on ze continent I thought it would be a bit more special to give away products that I personally love but aren't available in the UK. My chosen three are...

giveaway 3

Essence 'Circus Confetti' glitter nail varnish // Bioderma Sensibio H2O cleanser // Nivea Diamond Gloss conditioner

I've chosen each of these products because I haven't come across a better alternative at home (yes Bioderma is available in the UK but from what I've seen it's pretty hard to come by & I didn't actually try it before moving to Munich so I think it still counts :)) I first bought the Essence glitter nail varnish a few years ago (see my post about it here) & fell in love with it - it looks incredible with a thin coat over a bright nail varnish or even more magnifique with lots & lots of layers until your nails are a veritable disco ball! The conditioner is a little discovery I made in Italy last summer, it smells divine (sort of like hairdressers' shampoo if that makes sense?) it also leaves my hair incredibly soft & shiny - what more does a girl want?

So, how to enter:

I've tried to make it as easy as possible by using Rafflcopter (most of us are familiar with how it works, non?) The giveaway will run from today (7th April, 2013) until 28th April, 2013 - that's three whole weeks to get a whole heap of entries in! I've decided to make it a three-weeker as I will be back in the UK for a few days at the end of the month which makes it a lot quicker & easier to send the goodies to the lucky winner :)

Good luck, lovelies, & thank you for taking part!

a Rafflecopter giveaway

Please note that this giveaway is only open to UK residents, as it is my first one I wanted to make it as simple as possible. Look out for future international giveaways :)

Friday I'm in Love: Most Wanted #12

This week is all about River Island's Design Forum Collection by Georgia Hardinge.

FIIL georgia hardinge

I love the simplicity of the collection, but particularly these pieces - they're so versatile but so interesting & different. I especially love the pleated detailing, enhancing the wearers curves. I'm currently having to stop myself from ordering one of these dresses... I'm going to have to stop typing so I can sit on my hands!

What do you think of Georgia Hardinge's collection for River Island's Design Forum? Let me know in the comments below :)

& as if it couldn't get any better, there's an accompanying video to the collection - insane! I love it :D

Dungarees - Boohoo // Striped crop top - River Island // Necklace - New Look // Loafers - River Island

After posting about my love for dungarees I decided to purchase a pair from Boohoo. I've never bought anything from them before so wasn't sure what they'd be like but the price tag (£25) sold them to me & I'm SO glad I took the plunge, I love them! I decided to use their global styler speech bubble in my photos & seeing as I was repping Munich town I thought I'd try out a thoroughly Bavarian hairstyle
- it made me feel very Taylor Swift, ha! :D

The sun's finally out here, yaaay! I hope you're all having a lovely Thursday.

Big loves,

Monthly Favourites: March

march favourites

March was the month that I got serious about my skincare, welcome last month's favourites...

Bioderma Sébium Pore Refiner (full review coming soon)
This was a product I saw recommended by Lisa Eldridge (who, if you're not aware already, is an incredible make-up artist, I'm addicted to her youtube channel!) So yes, Lisa recommended this product for people who have large pores & being the large-pored gal that I am I thought I'd give it a try. I expected it to make my skin feel quite tight, closing up the ol' pores, but instead it was a really soft, velvety texture, & it is an incredible make-up base. I apply it just to my T-Zone & it makes my make-up so even & soft looking - amazing stuff!

La Roche-Posay Lipikar Balm AP (full review coming soon)
I originally tried this moisturiser because I was given a sample of it when I bought the Bioderma cleanser. My skin has been so dry recently with all the crazy weather & despite this being mostly a body cream I decided to try it at night on my face. I was so surprised by how well this worked as a face moisturiser, it's incredibly soft & nourishing without feeling greasy & despite being thick it hasn't given me any breakouts; I think this will be my new favourite product for a while.

I reviewed this product on Monday (see my review here), as I said then, I really don't feel like this product has received enough hype. It completely cleared up the dry skin that I'd had for so long on my neck & it only took a few drops to do it :)

Bioderma Sensibio H2O Cleanser
Last but not least, a much hyped about product - Bioderma's micelle water cleanser (read my review here). Completely gentle yet really tough, this miracle water gets even a full face of make-up off in a few swipes. I've always been a make-up wipe girl but since trying this I don't think I'll go back, my face feels so clean & soft after using this, something which I never properly felt with make-up wipes - brilliant!

After using all of these products I've noticed such a positive change in my skin, it's a lot clearer, softer & generally healthier looking. Have you tried any of these products? What did you think? I will be finalising my first giveaway in the next few days & will be including the Bioderma cleanser - keep an eye out for details :)

Monday Review: Bio-Oil

This week's product up for review is, in my opinion, extremely underrated in the old beauty blogosphere:
the miracle stuff that is Bio Oil, £8.49 for 60ml.

What Bio-Oil say...
Bio‑Oil is a specialist skincare oil that helps improve the appearance of scars, stretch marks and uneven skin tone. It is also effective for aging and dehydrated skin. Bio‑Oil has won 85 skincare awards and has become the No.1 selling scar and stretch mark product in 11 countries since its global launch in 2002. The Bio‑Oil formulation is a combination of plant extracts and vitamins suspended in an oil base. It contains the breakthrough ingredient PurCellin Oil™, which changes the formulation’s overall consistency, making it light and non-greasy. This ensures that the goodness contained in the vitamins and plant extracts is easily absorbed.

I bought this when my Liz Earle Superskin Concentrate oil (review here) ran out. I loved the Liz Earle oil but was at the airport on my way to Munich & needed a quick fix so thought I'd try this. I have to say this is without a doubt the best product I have ever used, it's magical. I used to suffer from really dry skin on my neck, which also meant my neck was quite red, & within 2 or 3 days of using Bio Oil the discolouration had completely gone & the dry skin was once again soft & smooth. I genuinely can't believe how well this worked & since using it my skin has stayed moisturised. I haven't tried this on stretch marks but if it works half as well as it does on dry skin it's worth its weight in big shiny pieces of gold!

I would give this oil ☆+
It is truly brilliant + (& perhaps even better) it's really affordable. I used such a small amount on my neck & the dinky little bottle makes it perfect for travelling. The way the packaging is designed means that when you tip the bottle only a little bit comes out so there's no mess & you only get the amount you need - perfect. If you suffer from dry skin, do not hesitate, buy this product!

Have you tried Bio-Oil? What did you think? Let me know in the comments below.
